It's certainly the best album so far this year and I really can't see any band coming close to crafting anything this flawless for quite a few years. Black Holes and Revelations is a monster of an album, with so many hidden depths and it may just be the best album Muse will ever create. The huge choruses seem to be designed for the live environment when singing along will not be an option but something you cannot help but do.īy the time "Knights Of Cydonia" brings the whole pompous affair to an end with it's overblown histrionics and driving forceful instrumentation you'll find yourself pressing play all over again. The rhythm section holds things together so that Bellamy can take his guitar wherever he likes, including a fantastic, if a little short, little solo and some fizzes that come out of nowhere unexpectedly. It starts slowly and belongs once again to how tight this band are. However this doesn't last long as by "Assassin" the album is back to it's off the kilter pace. The album finally slows for "Soldier's Poem", which hits the quota of every album released this year having at least one song that touches on the current world climate and also allows Muse to pretend to be Queen once more with harmonies that seem to have been lifted pitch perfect from Freddie Mercury. The one problem with Muse has always been Bellamy's lyrics, and here that is no different, However when the band can mask that weakness with a sound that mixes Queen with one to many Sci-fi movie soundtrack you really don't notice the sheer absurdity of lines like "Glaciers melt in the dead of night/ And superstars sucked into the supermassive". I wouldn't want to try and describe this song for you, I just couldn't do it justice. Following it with probably the best song on the album, "Map of Problematique," is just ingenious. Mixing a chunky bassline with Bellamy's driving understated guitar to create something of a dirty accompaniment for the silly lyrics in that voice. Lead single "Supermassive Black Hole" is quite a shock, what with Bellamy singing in falsetto, but it is probably the best choice for a single as it is such a head turner. "Starlight" is all about the hypnotic bass of Chris Wolstenholme under a soaring piano with Bellamy's vocals tying it all together. Of course it leads you into the next track, "Starlight," and you are hooked. Its somewhat familiar keyboard intro and Matt Bellamy's frankly bonkers nonsense lyrics build up throughout the track as the guitars and drums slowly creep up on you until you find yourself being dragged into the music just waiting for what is going to come next. The album kicks off with "Take a Bow," which sounds like something out of a Flash Gordon serial. So when details started to emerge about this, their fourth studio album (fifth album overall if you include the b-side collection Hullabaloo Soundtrack) and everyone was talking about it you knew it was going to be special.īlack Holes and Revelations is probably going to be the silliest album title of the year, but then Muse have never been a band to deal in subtlety. Absolution seemed to refine that sound and all of a sudden they were everywhere. Then in 2001 they came out with Origin of Symmetry and it seemed like a completely different band, gone were the slow miserable songs and in came this adventurous bombastic sound full of OTT headfuck guitar riffs and an almost gleeful will to be as big as they could. Then they had just released the very Radiohead sounding Showbiz and seemed almost destined to spend their career being compared to the Oxford based supergroup. If you asked me six years ago to name a band that at this time would seem about to take over the world I really don't think Muse would have even been in my top 50 choices. Wozencraft included hallstromi-the New Guinea singing dog-as a taxonomic synonym for the dingo. lupus 36 wild subspecies, and proposed two additional subspecies: familiaris (Linnaeus, 1758) and dingo (Meyer, 1793). In the third edition of Mammal Species of the World published in 2005, the mammalogist W. Linnaeus considered the dog to be a separate species from the wolf because of its "cauda recurvata" (upturning tail) which is not found in any other canid. He classified the domestic dog as Canis familiaris, and the wolf as Canis lupus. Canis is the Latin word meaning " dog", and under this genus he listed the doglike carnivores including domestic dogs, wolves, and jackals. In 1758, the Swedish botanist and zoologist Carl Linnaeus published in his Systema Naturae the binomial nomenclature. Taxonomy Canine phylogeny with ages of divergenceĬladogram and divergence of the gray wolf (including the domestic dog) among its closest extant relatives Examples include Wulfhere ("Wolf Army"), Cynewulf ("Royal Wolf"), Cēnwulf ("Bold Wolf"), Wulfheard ("Wolf-hard"), Earnwulf ("Eagle Wolf"), Wulfstān ("Wolf Stone") Æðelwulf ("Noble Wolf"), Wolfhroc ("Wolf-Frock"), Wolfhetan ("Wolf Hide"), Scrutolf ("Garb Wolf"), Wolfgang ("Wolf Gait") and Wolfdregil ("Wolf Runner"). Since pre-Christian times, Germanic peoples such as the Anglo-Saxons took on wulf as a prefix or suffix in their names. The name "gray wolf" refers to the grayish colour of the species. The Proto-Indo-European root * wĺ̥kʷos may also be the source of the Latin word for the animal lupus (* lúkʷos). The English "wolf" stems from the Old English wulf, which is itself thought to be derived from the Proto-Germanic * wulfaz. Wolf attacks on humans are rare because wolves are relatively few, live away from people, and have developed a fear of humans because of their experiences with hunters, farmers, ranchers, and shepherds. Although the fear of wolves exists in many human societies, the majority of recorded attacks on people have been attributed to animals suffering from rabies. Wolves have a long history of interactions with humans, having been despised and hunted in most pastoral communities because of their attacks on livestock, while conversely being respected in some agrarian and hunter-gatherer societies. The global wild wolf population was estimated to be 300,000 in 2003 and is considered to be of Least Concern by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Pathogens and parasites, notably the rabies virus, may infect wolves. Single wolves or mated pairs typically have higher success rates in hunting than do large packs. The wolf is mainly a carnivore and feeds on large wild hooved mammals as well as smaller animals, livestock, carrion, and garbage. Wolves are also territorial, and fights over territory are among the principal causes of mortality. Offspring may leave to form their own packs on the onset of sexual maturity and in response to competition for food within the pack. It travels in nuclear families consisting of a mated pair accompanied by their offspring. Of all members of the genus Canis, the wolf is most specialized for cooperative game hunting as demonstrated by its physical adaptations to tackling large prey, its more social nature, and its highly advanced expressive behaviour, including individual or group howling. The wolf's fur is usually mottled white, brown, gray, and black, although subspecies in the arctic region may be nearly all white. The wolf is nonetheless related closely enough to smaller Canis species, such as the coyote and the golden jackal, to produce fertile hybrids with them. The wolf is the largest extant member of the family Canidae, and is further distinguished from other Canis species by its less pointed ears and muzzle, as well as a shorter torso and a longer tail. More than thirty subspecies of Canis lupus have been recognized, including the dog and dingo, though gray wolves, as popularly understood, only comprise naturally-occurring wild subspecies. The wolf ( Canis lupus pl.: wolves), also known as the gray wolf or grey wolf, is a large canine native to Eurasia and North America. Global wolf range based on IUCN's 2018 assessment. Jura is mostly known as a Single Malt but it's also a very important part of the Whyte & Mackay Special Blend. It was founded in 1810 and since 1993 it belongs to Whyte & Mackay Ltd. Craighouse lies on the A 846, some eight miles from the Ferry Terminal to Islay. The Distillery is located in the small village of Craighouse the island's "capital". I find Toasted Barley, Salty Caramel, Toffee, Vanilla, Bitter Oak, Dried Fruit like Raisins, Plums & Apricots, Dark Chocolate, Cocoa Powder, Nougat, Honey, Nuts, Sour Apples, Grapefruit, Dusty Oak Casks, Dirty Track, Dried Herbs, Wet Rocks and Sand, Leather, Tobacco, Pepper, Cinnamon, Cloves, Ginger, Mint and strong Espresso. The Bitter cask notes are a bit too present for my liking. A mixture of Sweet, Sour and Bitter notes. Incidentally, I also brought over a Glendronach 21-Year-Old Parliament for Bob to try, and he just loved that one.Middle-Long. He’s replenished his liquor cabinet many times, and it’s safe to say that he is a creature of habit when it comes to the bottles he tends to purchase. To offer a sense of perspective, Bob is used to drinking Benromach 10-Year-Old, Benromach 100, Glenfarclas 105, Old Pulteney 17-Year-Old, and Linkwood 15-Year-Old. That helped me to gauge what a relative newbie, with the benefit of some helpful guidance over the past year (mine), would think of the Isle of Jura 21-Year-Old. Bob (my friend) has been drinking good, mid-level Scotches for the past year or two, and he wasn’t overly impressed. I brought my bottle over to a friend’s house. In and of itself, this would not usually be a problem however, it’s worth pointing out that the sweeter notes also become a bit cloying, as sometimes happens when E150a is used.ĭespite the above considerations, this whisky seems accessible enough for someone who isn’t overly particular about the craft side of distilling. Unfortunately, a few drops of water tend to accentuate the oak tannins–which, in turn, causes the spirit to taste more bitter. Because of this fact, I will go out on a limb and infer, through a feat of Sherlock Holmes-style deductive reasoning, that the whisky is not chill filtered. The addition of water does seem to create a bit of “Scotch mist” in the glass. This particular detail is usually difficult to confirm with distilleries that use caramel coloring to “brighten the corners” of what might otherwise be a fairly dull looking whisky. One thing I will say with some measure of confidence is that my taste buds can usually detect the substance, even though it is supposed to be flavorless. I can’t be sure the culprit is in here, or not, but I suspect a little might be–in fairly low amounts. While tasting Isle of Jura 21-Year-Old, I am reminded of artificial caramel flavor (E150a). At the death, a phantom note of sweetness makes a come-back, revealing a bit of marshmallow nougat. Palate: Rhubarb, with other stewed fruits dry roasted peanut cardamom, saffron vanilla, and more toffee.įinish: Medium finish that finally reveals a bit of oak tannins, with a slightly bitter downturn. Nose: Marshmallow nougat toffee honey malted milk balls wheat grass juice cashew butter. Vital Stats: 44% ABV (88 proof) aged 21 years 100% malted barley price ranges from $135-$170. It’s sweet, creamy, slightly oaky, and thus appeals to a wide range of preferences. Call this whisky “domesticated,” if you wish. The bottle itself has a feminine, curvy appearance, which even tapers in at the “waist.” In fact, it reminds me a little of a prehistoric fertility goddess.Īlthough Jura offers a few peated options in its core line-up, which culminate in Prophecy–a non-chill filtered, heavily peated whisky–the Jura 21 year-old is a different sort of animal. A black and white picture of the distillery is visible though a window on the lid, adding a vintage look. It’s undeniable that the ABV percentage is the same (44%), and today’s packaging is also quite innovative, with a removable buckling top that pulls up to reveal a black multi-tiered stand for the whisky bottle to perch upon. On the box of its Jura 21-Year-Old offering, the distillery claims that the whisky embraces “many characteristics” of the 200th anniversary commemorative bottling. The precise age of the barrel held a special significance because it was the year that Jura distillery was rebuilt. In 2010, Jura distillery released a 200 Year Anniversary special 21-Year-Old bottling that was finished in a Gonzalez Byass Oloroso Sherry cask from 1963. Jura 30-Year-Old won Best Islands Single Malt, as well as Best Islands Single Malt Over 21 Years, at the 2016 World Whiskies Awards. They can be dangerous in a certain sense but not in a life-threatening way. If you are an experienced smoker, then a gas mask bong is perfectly safe. You basically strap yourself into a gas mask, attach a bong, fill it with weed, smoke, and create your own mini hot box. The concept of a bong gas mask is simple. When you exhale, the air will push the valve down and escape the mask without going back down the bong. There is an exhaust port fitted with valves right in front of the mouthpiece. When you’ve had enough, loosen the straps and pull off the mask.

Recent features include Magic Background Eraser, which can automatically delete the background of an image. Like Classic, it has everything you need for photography, graphic design, and painting. This is the company’s upgrade to Pixelmator Classic and is only available for the Mac. It also features the company’s ML Denoise tool that will remove camera noise and compression artifacts. You tap the Super Resolution button and that’s it. It does have the ML Super Resolution tool but so far you can’t control the height or width of the image. You’ll find all or most of the editing tools you need to control color, exposure, shadows and highlights, and more. This app is fully about editing your photos and doesn’t have any tools for graphic design or painting. Pixelmator Photo is available on iPad and iPhone but not Mac. Details: The classic 80s ARAH collection expands with this update to the original vintage Tiger Force. Overall, Sky has an emotional awareness that’s born from understanding and acceptance. The knowledge passed down is not solely a history but a heritage to be practiced and preserved as a way of life. The Nakoda community had as big an influence on and hand in raising Sky as her parents. Family is clearly important to Sky, and that goes beyond immediate blood ties. Given her background I feel that Frost and Sky would have much to bond over. I wonder if that encounter inspired Nomad to welcome the friendship of a hunter like Specialist Frost. Had it not been for Sky’s medical training Nomad may not have survived the incident in the North. I was, however, surprised that this was the first I have heard of her. She seems to have the necessary drive, training and temperament to meld with Nomad’s team. Sky is an accomplished medical officer, aviation mechanic and pilot. When Nomad first brought Specialist Mina “Thunderbird” Sky to our attention I wasn’t surprised by her recommendation. Sky said she understood but asked Nøkk to leave their aircraft alone the next time she wanted to test her. Nøkk apologized and said that while she trusted Nomad herself, she wanted to know that Sky was capable of handling more than "war games". Holding no hard feelings for Nøkk's actions, Sky placed a bandaid on her head and helped her up. Nøkk stated that she wanted to test Sky as she did not trust Nomad's recruiting intuition. Sky told Nøkk that she knew something was off as she knew Nomad had terrible handwriting ever since she received frostbite in the Canadian wilderness. She then flanked her pursuer and kicked her in the head, revealing it to be Karina "Nøkk" Gaarddhøje. Sky treated her wound to stop the bleeding and then used a machine to release smoke into the hangar. She managed to get to cover and heard a familiar voice taunting her with a nursery rhyme. Sky was then suddenly fired upon and shot in the leg. She found the landing gear's hydraulic line had been cut as well as her missing necklace lodged in the plane upon closer inspection. It mentioned an issue with the CC-295 in one of Rainbow's hangars, prompting Sky to investigate. Shortly after her recruitment, Sky was left a note by what appeared to be from Nomad. This later led Nomad to recommend her to join Rainbow in 2021. Sky was able to successfully fend the bear off and flew Nomad to safety. After giving Nomad medical attention, they were attacked by a black bear while Sky was repairing her helicopter. In 2015, she found and rescued Sanaa “Nomad” El Maktoub in the Canadian wilderness. She completed her Basic Medical Training (CFHSTC) and continued to serve in the CAF as an Aerial Medic. Remembering her mother’s emphasis on the value of balance, Sky felt since the CAF taught her to take lives, she should also learn how to save them. While benefitting from the guidance of community elders and indigenous instructors, this program sparked an interest in preserving and protecting what she loved most, the Nakoda way of life.Īfter joining the Canadian Armed Forces Sky worked her way through flight school. Her first introduction to engines was at her father’s knee, he taught her to understand helicopters before she learned to fly one.Īlways eager for new experiences she enrolled in the Bold Eagle Program at seventeen where she excelled in basic military training. Born in the Nakoda Territories of Saskatchewan, Sky’s first lesson from her mother was the importance of community. If your job does not involve sending and receiving a large volume of email then Superhuman is not for you.Īlso, support is second to none. Their target market is busy professionals and while the 30 minute interview may seem to be excessive/intrusive once they run through the app with you and understand your workflow you will find new ways of being more productive. I agree that $30 per month is not a trivial sum but for me this is a pure business cost and given that I spend much of my day in email and anything that can save me as much time and increase productivity as Superhuman has, then it is worth it to me. Much of the functionality can be achieved by using Gmail and numerous extensions but you end up with a slow and clunky app that is nowhere near as speedy and rewarding to use on a day-to-day basis. I had similar reservations before I signed up but I have to say that Superhuman is the app that is the most valuable to me in terms of productivity. If you're still here, thanks for reading! I want to be a paying customer with support and development. I don't mind paying for the client, even subscription. I haven't checked how it works now, and don't want to spend 50$ just to check. Newton covered all of this for me before, but dies and rises like a phoenix every other day. Also, 3rd party clients often have better GUI and "workflow". Apple mail can generate native links on MacOS through some scripting, but these don't work on iOS, and you can't generate links there. It often had great trouble gathering mails in threads. Airmail is dead, there doesn't seem to be any updates. Also Spark doesn't separate very well between mail accounts, it's awkward to send a mail to a customer from you private mail on mistake."Generate link" creates a link to their web-client. Tada! Can't find the mail anymore! Also you can't generate the url-scheme links directly, for linking in Notes and similar. I may have a note that "This mail has critical info regard X on project Y, follow up when you get to stage Z". So when its time to follow up on a mail from Todoist some links have stopped working and Spark can't find the mail. Sparks url-scheme links are great, but will randomly stop working. It's not a long requirements list, but all of my tried apps fall through in some way: I deal with a large amount of projects during work, so need to store mails so I can easily find them later based on which projects they relate to.Preferable a good system for moving mails to folders (for later reference).Should be URL-scheme, so it works on both MacOS, iPhone OS and iPad OS.The link should be in the title (Spark does this), not in a comment (Missive).Adding mail to Todoist must create a clickable link in the task that opens the mail in the native app.Client for Mac OS and iOS (both iPhone and iPad). To support this workflow I want to add mail to todoist as a task together with everything else, and most 3rd party have some integration, but none that really works for me. Some times that means deferring a mail to a later date, either because if requires a lot of work to respond to, or because I want to follow up on it later (from days to months). I use GTD to manage my work, and try to empty my mail inbox every day, as I do with my GTD/Todoist-inbox. What mail client are you using? I've tried Spark, Airmail, Newton, Native Apple Mail, but haven't found any of them to fully support my intended work flow. |
