![]() The corned beef has was flavoursome, and the poached egg perfectly cooked. The sandwiches were substantial and fresh. It was a bit of a wait for our meals to be delivered, but they were enjoyed. We ordered a number of classics from the extensive menu: a Pastrami Reuben sandwich with Grilled Sauerkraut and Swiss on Rye ($18.95) theįried Chicken Sandwich with Crispy Fried Chicken Breast, Swiss Cheese and coleslaw, and served with Russian Dressing and French Fries ($17.95) and the Corned Beef Hash, with Poached Egg with French and Choice of Toast ($17.95). Service was efficient and friendly, without being overbearing or obtrusive. But we didn’t mind the calmer, more civilised atmosphere. The restaurant didn’t seem as energetic or lively as the Manhattan counterparts, and there wasn’t any loud music pumping as we’ve experienced in the other locations. We did not have a reservation but were seated promptly. It has a a bit of a retro feel to it, and walls are covered with numerous framed photographs and prints, but it was spacious, clean, and exuded a bit of an ‘olde worlde’ charm. It’s a very pleasant dining space, with seating at the bar, in booths, and at tables. So on visiting other sites in Brooklyn, it was a bit of a given that we would go to the original Junior’s, still at the same location since 1950. Apparently the name is a tribute to the founder’s two sons. chain with the original location at 386 Flatbush Avenue Extension, Downtown Brooklyn, New York City. They have a fun, lively atmosphere, with substantial portions of good hearty food. I’ve been to both of the Junior’s outlets in Times Square in Manhattan on various trips to New York, and enjoyed meals, cheesecakes, and other desserts. This is an institution that shouldn't be missed. Only Vegans need not bother to make a visit. ![]() But I promise you that you don't have to be a Jew from NYC (both or even just either), unless you are a veggie you will love it! And even veggies will LOVE the cheesecake. As a nice Jewish boy from NY, I know this stuff. But the crowning achievement is their world-famous cheesecake!! OMG, it is to DIE for!!! The quality of the cheese and the phenomenal crust will make your mouth fall out! (Don't worry they give it back to you when you leave). The service can be a bit brusque, but this is Brooklyn, so live with it. Now the deli is very good but probably not tops anymore, but still tasty and servings are pretty large. When we visit our family and friends in NYC, we stay in Manhattan, but we always take a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge to downtown Brooklyn to eat there! (You could take the subway if you don't want the stunningly great 2-mile walk). This place has been here since before I was born, and I ain't no spring chicken! Probably at least 65-70 years in business, and for good reason. will never splurge on great food of this type. Sadly, the number of good delis (kosher are the best) has plummeted between the 80s and recently due to health crazies who. Lemme tell ya, as a native New Yorker who now lives in San Diego, I have been to tons of delis and bakeries. You can buy a slice or a whole cake and although expensive for whole one, I still say worth every penny. Whether you have had New York cheesecake before or not this is a must go to place. I wish I could have managed to finish it. Out of both cheesecake the New York one is the best hands down, so creamy and smooth. The strawberry cheesecake was also nice, smooth texture and had huge fresh strawberries on top. The New York cheesecake came with a thin sponge base which is different to what I’ve tried in the UK but was so delicious. ![]() We ordered the famous New York original cheesecake and a strawberry cheesecake both were huge portions so we could have just shared one but wanted to try a couple of different ones so it was worth every penny even if we couldn’t finish them. As it was morning, we were given the brunch menu that had no desserts on it so asked the waiter for the dessert menu as it was the cheesecake we wanted to try. We later realized there was a junior restaurant close to where we were staying but never mind, we enjoyed. ![]() We walked across Brooklyn bridge early one morning and decided to keep walking to Juniors which was a lot further than we realized but worth it.
